About contemporary & lyrical at WE DANCE

Contemporary and lyrical are our most expressive styles. Classes focus on expression and musicality, and are led by Zizi, Director of our Contemporary Dance Troupe; our contemporary and lyrical troupes both won first places in 2026. Zizi trained in dance choreography at the Shanghai Theatre Academy.

In Term 4 2026 there are two weekly contemporary classes for younger dancers. Flexibility & Contemporary Level 1 (ages 6–8, Thursday 5:00–6:30pm) combines flexibility and core work with contemporary dance feel, and is open for trial classes. Contemporary G1–G3 (ages 6–9, Monday 6:00–7:00pm) is by audition or teacher invitation. Older students can take Open Style – Musical Theatre · Lyrical (11+) on Fridays at 7:00pm with Katie.

Dancers who shine in class may be invited into our troupes. In 2026 the Lyrical Troupe won first places at Evolution Auckland and Follow Your Dreams Auckland, and the Contemporary Dance Troupe won first place at Follow Your Dreams Auckland.
